Soul Sector is an all-styles street dance family of friends from San Francisco, founded in 1998 by Mikey Disko. Soul Sector began as a hip-hop and house dance collective, primarily influenced by New York City dancers, such as Mop Top. The numerous opportunities to dance on the east coast in the 90s enabled Soul Sector to bring New York house dance to the Bay Area. Over the past 5 years, Soul Sector has evolved to include popping, locking, and bboying. The strength of the group is their love to train in multiple styles. Soul Sector’s past and present members have greatly influenced the Bay Area funkstlyes, bboying, and house dance scene.

Soul Sector has traveled far and wide to train and learn the history of each of the street styles by the founders and innovators of each genre. Through individual members and as a collective, Soul Sector has competed, performed, taught and judged contests across the USA, United Kingdom, Singapore, France, Italy, Canada, Japan, Korea, Brazil, and the Philippines. For the past 5 years, Soul Sector has been a consistent headliner and crowd favorite of the San Francisco Hip Hop Dancefest, a very prestigious Bay Area theatre festival. One of Soul Sector’s most memorable performances took place at House Dance International in New York in 2007. Soul Sector members have been selected by Red Bull to participate in the elite Red Bull Beat Riders program. Hip Hop International presented Shy Guy with the “Don Campbellock Award” for locking in 2008. Soul Sector was a special guest performance and runner up at Dance Delight New York in 08. Recently, Soul Sector won Dance Delight New York and represented the USA in Dance Delight in Osaka, Japan.
